how did i get here???

acrylic painting
(2018)
this was my favorite piece i painted when i was a junior in high school (it's still my favorite piece from that school year now)
i think that this piece is the first time i was kind of experimental and doing something without a plan, as the waves emerged out of me accidentally getting blue paint on what was supposed to be the table
the summer between my junior and senior year of high school, i did a lot of experimentation with materials, techniques, and ideas.

on the left is a piece where i worked with text, a limited palette, and different methods of applying materials to the different squares

on the right was an attempt at a sculptural piece. with this, i had no clear final product in mind as i worked to the end result.

right: beef
(2018)
these are pieces i made for my AP portfolio my senior year of high school.
again, i never started with a clear image of what i wanted each to look like when i began, so it allowed me to have a lot of trial and error and experimentation when working on each one
additionally, i like how each of these has a meaning.
i really enjoyed working on these pieces and i think they're what got me into more hands on processes within my practice
also, during senior year, i did a series of what i called "clown muppet" self portraits.

with these i tried, again, to see where i got without a clear goal in mind.

SAIC!!!
i think the environment at saic has really helped me truly experiment and try new things without being afraid.
with iterations, i tried to work in ways i haven't before, such as using dried paint, working in the woodshop, and doing photo transfers.
on the left and right:
iterations (2019)
worm room (2019)
i've also begun working on different scales, larger and smaller. worm room (right) is the largest drawing i've ever done at about 3ftx4ft
this is my favorite piece i've made this semester.
i like how with this piece, i had a goal but i didn't let the goal i had in mind limit how i made it (it was originally supposed to be a gridded rectangle).
also with this piece, i like how it has a meaning of valentines cliches.
while i enjoy the process of experimenting and trying new things with my work, i would also like to tie more meaning or a story back into it as well, like i have with this piece.
